A 28-year-old Regina man faces firearms charges following an incident on Monday afternoon in which a shotgun was accidentally discharged.
At 12:30 p.m., police were dispatched to a house on the 600 block of East College Avenue for reports of a weapons offence. Police learned that a shotgun had been discharged inside the house, leading to damage to the house and a car that was parked out front. No one was hurt in the incident.
Police took positions nearby, while the Communications Centre advised the caller that any occupants of the house should exit with hands visible and empty. A male, the only occupant of the house, emerged and was taken into custody without incident. Police then secured the weapon.
As a result of the investigation, it is alleged that the male was practicing loading the shotgun when it accidentally went off.
