After a weekend shooting, a teen has been charged with discharging a firearm in a reckless manner and two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.
The incident, at the 2000 block of Wallace St. at around 2.30 a.m. on Sunday, saw a 21-year-old man taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
In the incident’s aftermath, local woman Alison Moneybird-Morgan described how she heard gunshots inside her home early Sunday morning, which was followed by her brother rushing into her with blood streaming from a bullet wound.
The 15-year-old suspect was detained without incident on Monday.
Police recovered a weapon from the house, which is described as a homemade device referred to as a zip gun, which fires single rounds. Police believe the device was discharged owing to careless handling.
The youth made his first court appearance on Tuesday afternoon.
