An RCMP officer from the Kamsack detachment has been fined after pleading guilty to driving with a blood-alcohol level exceeding the legal limit.

Sgt. Terence Wilson had been scheduled to appear in Yorkton Provincial Court on his charges on Thursday, but instead entered the guilty plea during an early appearance in February. A second charge of impaired driving was stayed, as is usual when a guilty plea is entered to the other charge.

Wilson was handed a $1,000 fine and a one-year driving prohibition, as well as a $100 fine surcharge.

RCMP previously reported that on Jan. 29, Canora RCMP members responded to reports of an erratic driver in that community.

The resulting investigation led to charges against Wilson — a 20-year veteran of the force — who police said was not on duty at the time.

At the time, RCMP reported Wilson was suspended with pay as a result of the incident. RCMP spokespeople could not be reached Thursday to comment on what impact, if any, the conviction might have on Wilson’s employment.
