A Fort Qu’Appelle man will be sentenced next month, having pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2017 death of Lucas Alexander Keith Lerat.

Lerat was 27 when, at about 11 p.m. on May 13, 2017, he was found seriously injured outside a Fort Qu’Appelle business. He died in hospital shortly after.

Fort Qu’Appelle RCMP and File Hills First Nations police found Lerat after responding to a disturbance at a Hudson Avenue location.

Later that month, the investigation led to the arrest of Patrick Tuckanow, then 26. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder.

He appeared at Regina Court of Queen’s Bench on Tuesday, where he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter. The court has not yet heard any submissions or details of the offence.

Sentencing was set over to Nov. 22. Court heard Crown and defence counsel expect to put forward a joint recommendation for sentence.

Tuckanow will remain in custody in the meantime.
